Who We Are
Founded in 1989 in Charlotte, NC, The Barnabas Center is a nonprofit, nondenominational, Christ-centered counseling, training and teaching ministry. The Barnabas name, which means “son of encouragement,” communicates our desire to encourage people by coming alongside them, entering into their daily struggles, and walking with them toward freedom. We currently have offices in Charlotte, Davidson, NC and Richmond, VA.
The Barnabas Center’s Ministries are Comprised of Three Areas:
- Counseling: Through individual and couple counseling sessions, our counselors are invited to walk alongside people in the midst of their most intimate struggles. Witnessing God use brokenness and heartache to move people toward redemption is one of our greatest privileges.
- Groups: Bringing your darkest struggles to light through the safety of confidential, counselor-facilitated groups is often an integral step toward healing and redemption. We currently offer group programs to address sexual addiction, sexual betrayal, and various forms of childhood abuse.
- Training & Events: Our counselors and staff facilitate various seminars, conferences and retreats that guide participants toward an authentic relationship with God and more meaningful relationships with people.
The Barnabas Center’s Model of Change
The Barnabas Center offers a unique take on how change occurs. Rather than offering techniques to avoid struggle or diminish pain we explore what God may have to offer in the midst of difficult times.
We believe that disappointment exposes the desires and longings of the human heart. As a result it brings to the surface the strategies we try to implement to make life work. These strategies are self-reliant instead of God-dependent in order to get what we want and avoid what we fear. Ultimately these attempts at self-reliance are harmful to us – both in keeping us from caring for others well and from loving and depending fully on God.
The Barnabas Board is excited to announce that we are planning to establish a Barnabas Center in the Winston-Salem/Greensboro area. The target start date is currently Fall of 2018. We are anticipating that a Barnabas Center will impact individual lives and entire communities with the good news that God uses brokenness and heartache to move people toward redemption.
If you’d like to receive updates about this vision for The Barnabas Center in the Triad area, please email Clyde Godwin at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are currently in the process of raising funds to cover start-up costs and the sliding scale that will be provided to clients. To support this new office financially CLICK HERE. Be sure to select “General Donation – Winston-Salem/Greensboro” under program area.
In addition, our efforts in Northern Virginia are on sabbatical, pending discovery of the appropriate Barnabas counselor.
