Palmer Trice founded The Barnabas Center in 1989 and serves today as its Director. He leads the proactive side of the ministry, using his teaching, training and mentoring gifts to take the hope of the gospel into the community in general and the local church in particular. Prior to founding The Barnabas Center, Palmer spent 10 years on staff with Young Life and also served as minister of discipleship at a church in Charlotte.

Palmer is an ordained Presbyterian minister and graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. He received his bachelor’s degree in history from Washington and Lee University. Palmer is married to Lynne, has three children and has been in Charlotte since 1979. In his spare time, he enjoys golf, tennis, walking and reading.

John D. Pierce has been counseling and leading groups at The Barnabas Center since 1997.  Most of his professional attention has been given to understanding the issues men face over the lifespan.  His work is dedicated to helping those who are recovering from sexual addiction, childhood or adult trauma, relational betrayal and unwanted attractions.  He serves as the Clinical Director for the Center and oversees the Honors Program, a multi-faceted groups based course for men seeking sexual health, freedom from addictions and intimacy growth. Ultimately, John is committed to helping men, and those they love, find God through their struggles and understand His plan on the healing journey.

John is a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), Licensed Professional Counselor in North Carolina (LPC), and a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist (CSAT).  He earned a master’s degree in Biblical counseling from Colorado Christian University, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from William Jennings Bryan College. He is married to Sandy, and they have three children.

Pete Bondy began counseling in 1997 and joined The Barnabas Center in 2000. His primary focus is guiding adults through struggle towards heart change and transformation. That gets specifically expressed in new counselor training, Barnabas Training, leadership development, individual counseling and deep discipleship work. In addition to counseling individuals and couples, Pete has significant experience in designing and leading experiential adventures designed to facilitate challenge and growth.

Pete has lived in Charlotte since the late 1980s, and worked for DuPont prior to earning his master’s in Biblical counseling from Colorado Christian University. He is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and earned his electrical engineering degree from Louisiana State University. He is married to Linda (1976) and they have 5 children and 3 grandsons.  Pete enjoys many things outdoors; mountain bike riding, hiking, skiing, rock climbing, learning with horses, and playing with grandsons.

Roger Edwards joined The Barnabas Center in 1991. Roger works with both with individuals and couples, helping people confess their need and embrace their available choices to lead healthier lives. Roger also teaches and leads discussion groups and retreats applying the Gospel to everyday life. He divides time between our Central Office in Charlotte and our satellite office in Davidson.

Prior to joining The Barnabas Center, Roger spent 10 years as a college-campus minister through InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. He is a licensed professional counselor (LPC), holds a master’s degree in biblical counseling from Grace Theological Seminary in Indiana and earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is married to Jean and they have seven children and nine grandchildren.

Lauren Cheatham joined The Barnabas Center’s counseling staff in 2007, but has been leading Barnabas Training small groups since 2005. Lauren counsels individuals and couples. She works with women who struggle with anxiety, depression, relational issues, childhood harm and trauma.  She is passionate about walking alongside women as God leads them toward freedom. Her work with couples is centered on being curious about how spouses are triggering each other and what God may be refining in this triggering.

Lauren is a licensed professional counselor (LPC), earned her master’s degree in counseling from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, and holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Georgia. In 2012 Lauren received the Advanced Counseling Certificate from The Allender Center helping to improve her skills for understanding and engaging the impact of trauma and abuse within the therapeutic relationship. She is married to Rhett. In her spare time, Lauren enjoys spending time with Rhett and friends, digging in the dirt designing planters and container gardens, and playing with Selwyn and Abby, their collies.

Kurt Zuiderveen joined The Barnabas Center in 2008 and focuses on individuals and couples dealing with grief, sexual brokenness, past trauma and marital conflict. Kurt is trained in EMDR which is a therapeutic way of processing trauma focusing on the mind/body response to distressing situations.  Kurt divides his time between our main office in Charlotte and our office in Davidson.

Before joining The Barnabas Center, Kurt gained counseling experience through private practice, the church setting, and state-funded counseling programs. Kurt is a licensed professional counselor supervisor (LPCS), earned his master’s in counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary, and earned his bachelor’s from Grand Valley State. He is married to April, and they have three children.

Mollie Johnston is a Counselor for The Barnabas Center.  She has her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Tennessee where she majored in Spanish so as to have a good reason to study abroad.  She moved to Charlotte from Tennessee to get her Master of Arts in Christian Counseling from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.  She has counseling experience working with incarcerated women and with oncology patients and their families at Carolinas Medical Center.  Further experience was gained getting to co-counsel with Pete Bondy while doing the Residency Program at Barnabas.  She is especially passionate about helping individuals who are working through grief, doubts, trauma, relationships, anxiety, depression, self-esteem/identity issues, seasons of loneliness, family of origin issues, and divorce.

Meredith joined The Barnabas Center in January 2009, upon completing her Masters in Counseling from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and her bachelors in Religion and Psychology from Furman University.  Previously, she completed extensive training with The Barnabas Center, and counseled individuals and couples as a mental health intern in a church-based counseling center in North Carolina. She has been involved in an urban ministry in Charlotte that offers lay vocational training to adults.

Meredith enjoys walking with individuals, couples, and groups of women, to encounter God in struggle and move through struggle to restoration, meaning and hope. Meredith has focused on working with women and marriages, and sees clients who are dealing with depression, relational brokenness, abuse, grief, and women’s issues. She also enjoys recovery work for adult children of alcoholics.

Ben is honored to sit with men and women in the midst of the inevitable and unavoidable struggles of life.  Prior to coming to Barnabas over a year ago, Ben counseled at the Oviedo Counseling Clinic in Florida.  He has been trained to walk with people through many types of struggles but finds himself regularly working with couples, men dealing with sexual issues, men and women dealing with interpersonal and relational struggles, and those who deal with anxiety and depression.

Ben is married to Amy and has three children under the age of 6 – Mae, Bailey and Thomas.  When not in the counseling room, he likes to make time for playing the banjo and guitar.  He is also a ski patroller at Beech Mountain, NC.

April is married to Kurt, and they have 3 children. She graduated from the University of North Carolina with a Bachelors in Psychology and Communication Studies.  She earned her Master’s degree at Reformed Theological Seminary in 2002 and has gained counseling experience primarily from private practice.  April enjoys working with women in grief, those struggling with sexual brokenness, anxiety, parenting concerns and marital conflict. She also enjoys speaking at women’s retreats and teaching seminars for the local church.  April will divide her time between our main office in Charlotte and our office in Davidson.

Jeremy White has joined The Barnabas Center in a consulting capacity before transitioning into a full-time role this fall. He will increasingly oversee the financial/operational side of Barnabas internally and add another outward facing voice for encouraging Gospel hope to the community. He is currently Executive Director at Camp Lurecrest, a non-denominational summer camp/retreat ministry that runs Christian youth camps in Lake Lure, NC.  Prior to joining Lurecrest in 2006, Jeremy spent eleven years with CPA firms Arthur Andersen and Grant Thornton in transaction and international tax consulting. Raised in Dallas, TX, he holds a bachelor degree in accounting from Furman University. And part of his journey included two years pursuing outdoor ministry through instructor training with NC Outward Bound School and studying part-time, without degree, at Reformed Theological Seminary. Jeremy and his wife Lindsay have three sons under age twelve – Keller, Coleman, and Porter. He loves all things outdoors and playing soccer with his boys.

As the Special Projects Manager, Jamie Swartzendruber is the primary staff person responsible for the organization of all events for Barnabas as well as handling our marketing, communications, and online presence. She oversees the details for groups and seminars we offer and is involved in coordinating logistics for the Development Team in our office.

Prior to joining the team at Barnabas, Jamie planned events for a variety of organizations, including EMI Christian Music Group, Big Events, Inc., Major League Baseball Alumni Association, Blood:Water Mission and The ONE Campaign, among others. She is excited to serve The Barnabas Center with her creative approach and organizational skills.

Jamie holds a BA in Sociology and Religion from Emory University. She has been married to Jay since 2001.

Women’s Director of Community Discipleship Main Office in Charlotte, NC20

CC Schott is the Women’s Director of Community Discipleship, a recent addition in the Vision 2020 initiative. In this role, CC “takes Barnabas to the streets” by equipping the community to offer Christ to their friends in struggle.  Prior to joining the team at Barnabas, CC served as the Local Ministry Coordinator for Project 658, a Charlotte ministry reaching refugees. Before that, she was on the Young Life staff for 8 years which is how she landed in Charlotte in 2002.

CC holds a BFA in Interior Design from Winthrop University. She has studied under Larry Crabb, garnering tools through Larry’s School of Spiritual Direction. CC is married to Mike and they have a young son, Wally.

Sarah serves as the Client Coordinator, she is a warm welcome to our clients when they come in.  She also answers phone calls and handles appointment scheduling.  Sarah is in her third year of graduate school at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, working towards her Masters in Christian Counseling.

Sarah earned her Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations at Auburn University. She spent a year after graduation in East Asia with Campus Crusade.

Denise Lindberg serves as our Business Administrator, and has been with The Barnabas Center since 2007. As Business Administrator, Denise oversees the financial, human resources, and business operations.

Prior to joining the team at Barnabas, Denise served as financial administrator for several non-profits where she developed a passion for assisting non-profits in running effectively and efficiently.

Administrative Coordinator- Data Specialist Main Office in Charlotte, NC3

Cinda Hutchinson is the Administrative Coordinator & Data Specialist for The Barnabas Center. As Administrative Coordinator, Cinda manages the office environment and front desk coverage, assists the counseling and ministry staff with new and ongoing needs, oversees all scholarship processes and payments and works in conjunction with other administrative staff to ensure ministry operations run smoothly and efficiently.  As Data Specialist she manages our donor data, produces donor reports, and assists with grant proposals.

Prior to joining the team at Barnabas, Cinda served as an administrative assistant at Christ Covenant responsible for managing the front office, facilities, and providing administrative support to the Missions department. Cinda developed a passion for helping others as she worked with missionaries at her church and served in various volunteer positions with other Christian organizations.

Cinda holds a BA from University of Illinois. She is married to Michael and they have two sons.

Whitney Jenney
Client Coordinator 3

Whitney has recently joined the Barnabas team as a part-time Client Coordinator.  Having relocated from Minneapolis, Whitney is enjoying getting to know her way around Charlotte, and is especially excited to begin her ministry journey after nine years at home with her husband and their two boys.

Whitney has a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and a Master’s of Theological Studies from Bethel Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota.
